Almazaras de la Subbética

Almazaras de la Subbética is more than just a family business: it is a company of 4000 families who live off and for the olive grove. It was on this basis that the firm was created on 9 July 2007 following the merger of two companies – S.C.A. Virgen del Castillo (Carcabuey) and S.C.A. Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno (Priego de Córdoba) – that date back to the 50s and 60s respectively.
Our location within the rugged and mountainous terrain of the Sierras Subbéticas national park, in the south of the Province of Córdoba, enjoys a unique microclimate characterised by high rainfall and large temperature variations. It is in this setting that, through a combination of natural selection and traditional methods, the legendary olive trees develop into their singular shapes, standing majestically in a landscape that has remained unchanged through the passage of time. These mature olive trees seem to caress the heavens, beckoning their blessing in the form of fruit.
Picudo and Hojiblanco olive groves are resistant to pests, frost and drought, adapted to limy soil and grow on slopes with as much as a 70% gradient. The altitude of the olive grove (between 700 and 1000 metres above sea level), its adaptation to its rustic setting and the wisdom accumulated over many years (the olive trees have existed for hundreds and, in some cases, thousands of years) have provided us with ideal conditions to produce the finest olives possible. Generation after generation, olive growers have passed on their expertise but, more than that, they have conveyed their passion for this land and these groves, which have become an intrinsic part of their life.
Almazaras de la Subbética produces several different Extra Virgin Olive Oils, but the most important ones are Rincón de la Subbética y ParqueOliva Serie Oro, the first one of organic farming, and both recognized by the Council Regulation on Organic Farming in Andalucía. Based on the quantity and quality of awards received by these two Extra Virgin Olive Oil, one could say that Almazaras de la Subbética produces the best oil in the world. Below are a series of logos representing international competitions where they won the first prize (full list can be viewed for each product on their respective pages)
